Dorothy Callaway, 94, of Whitney, passed away on January 31, 2017, at Park Plaza Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 3, 2017, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born on November 12, 1922, in Hillsboro, to Earl and Valerie (Moss) Dyer. She lived in the area all of her life, graduating from Hillsboro High School. On December 20, 1940, she married William L. “Son” Callaway and moved to Whitney at that time. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2004.
An employee of Grant Buie Hospital, she later worked at First National Bank in Whitney as head bookkeeper before retiring. She was a member of Towash Baptist Church. In her spare time, she loved painting and gardening.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Joe Dyer, and her sister, Johnnie McCoy.
Survivors include her children, Joe Mike Callaway and wife, Gracie, of Whitney and William T. “Bill” Callaway and wife, Marilyn of Whitney; six grandchildren, John Callaway and wife, Melanie of Davis, W. Virginia, Jill Hall and husband, Mike, Julie Tidwell and husband, Monte, Amy Leech and husband, Donovan, Jay Callaway and wife, Misti and Mindy Estill and husband, Scott, all of Whitney; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
