Dorothy was born February 15th, 1930 in Itasca, Texas to Will and Jennie Alverson. She was one of 15 children and the last surviving child. She graduated from Itasca High School in 1947. She was married to J.A. Curry on October 8th, 1947. They welcomed two daughters, Jeanna and Terri, during their marriage. Dorothy’s beloved husband J.A. was called home to be with the Lord on January 17th,1977.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Buddies Supermarket and the Clayton Kay Funeral Home over the span of many years. Dorothy loved serving others so working in the funeral home business for 46 years gave her great joy. She loved helping the families in their time of loss. Her heart was so compassionate and loving. She shared so many of her wonderful memories with her family of her time in the funeral home business.
Dorothy was “Granny” to most everyone that knew her. She was the joy of her family and countless others. We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice that we had 90 amazing years. Her last years were filled with lots of fun, time with family and memories she cherished. She loved playing Bingo when she could. She loved watching Reba, the game show “The Chase” and lifetime movies. She was so funny. She loved laughing and making others laugh. Dorothy always made sure everyone around her was never hungry. Even if you were not ready to eat, she fed you anyway. She loved sweets! She always wanted dessert before anything else. She also loved giving to others when she could. She would give you her last $20 if you need it. Selfless is the only way to describe her.
Preceding her in death is her parents Will and Jennie Alverson, husband J.A. Curry, 14 brothers and sisters
Survivors include her children Jeanna Ward and husband, Bobby, of Hillsboro, Terri Craigmile and her husband Jimmi, of Waxahachie, grandchildren Bridgett Moore and husband Pat, of Hewitt, Chad Hanson and wife Lacy, of Waxahachie great grandson Lawson Hanson of Waxahachie and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Seely for his continuous passionate care for Dorothy.
