Dorothy "Dee" (Fisher) Griffith

Dorothy Irene Griffith, known as “Dee” to most people, passed away on August 24, 2019 in Waco, Texas.   Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at First Church of the Nazarene in Whitney under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.  Burial will follow at Whitney Memorial Park in Whitney.    A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, August 29, 2019.

Born to Lee and Mildred Fisher in Villisca, Iowa, Dorothy was one of at least five children born during the Great Depression.   After her father died, their family hit hard times and some of her siblings, including herself, were forced into an orphanage.  After growing up on a dairy farm in Iowa with her adopted family, Dorothy moved to Omaha, Nebraska, then to Phoenix, Arizona, and on to southern California, where she remained until 1998 when she and her beloved husband, James Griffith moved to Whitney, Texas.

She loved Jesus with all her heart and since making Him Lord of her life in the late 1990's, she has made sure to let as many people as possible know which included  any time she was getting her nails done or hair done, at a restaurant, or even in the hospital.    It didn’t matter who you were, you were going to hear about Jesus and receive a holy hug as she was affectionately referred to as the “holy hugger”.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, James Griffith, her five children, her three step-children, multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many family and friends.

She truly left a legacy.
