Dorothy Elmore

Dorothy was the daughter of Irving and Willie Mae Adams Ballew. Her mother passed away when she was very young and she was raised by her grandmother, Estella Ballew. She grew up in Navarro and Hill County and graduated from Mertens High School. Following graduation, she married Ken Elmore and they moved to Arlington where she raised her family and lived for the next 20 years. For the last 15 years, she had resided in Mertens. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mertens. Her interests included crocheting, reading, and fishing. She also was an excellent cook and enjoyed caring for and playing games with her grandchildren and hearing stories about all their endeavors. Preceding her in death were her parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include three children, Dennis Elmore and wife, Yvonne, of Arlington, Genia Degner of Frost, and Donna Elmore of Mertens; two sisters, Wilma Johnson of Mertens and Ivy Lege of Port Arthur, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ballew of Mertens; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
