Dorothy Jean (Boatwright) Handy

Dorothy Jean Handy age 87 of Hillsboro passed away in the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by her son David and daughter Joyce at her residence on January 25, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday January 30, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.  Dinner will be served following the burial at the Bethel Temple, 600 South Colonial Drive, Cleburne, Texas.

Dorothy was born in Osceola, Texas on January 20, 1936, to Wylie Lester Boatwright and Thera Fay (Lewis) Boatwright.  She was the youngest of two girls. Dorothy was of Pentecostal faith and attended Hillsboro Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro for many years. She loved going to church and reading her Bible. Dorothy dedicated her life to the Lord and her family as they were her greatest joy and blessing. She worked for the Hill County Courthouse for thirteen plus years before retiring. She enjoyed being Nanny to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many people who knew her and called her Nanny.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wylie Boatwright and Thera Boatwright; her husband, Jessy Handy Sr.; her son, Jessy Handy Jr.; daughter-in-law, Donna Handy; her granddaughter, Amy Handy Munoz; and her sister Mary Chapman. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Glenda Balderas and husband Lucio Balderas Sr., Joyce Handy and her fiancée Willie Martinez; her sons, JB Handy, Henry Handy, and David Handy; her grandchildren, Jessy Gilbert Handy, Lisa Ann Hall, Lucio Balderas Jr., Chris Balderas, Marcus Balderas, Bubba Handy, Amos Handy, Adam Handy, Ashlee Lusk, Amanda Smith, Jessica Jones, Joshua Dakota Sykes; and a precious legacy of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her legacy will live on through her family. She will always be loved.
