Dorothy M. Howlett, 97, passed away on May 30, 2013, at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney, Texas. A memorial service for Mrs. Howlett will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 2:00 pm, at Park Plaza Nursing Home in Whitney. An inurment service will also take place on July 11, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Dorothy was born in Lamar County, Alabama, to Frank S. Mordecai and Arrie C. Mordecai. On June 3, 1933, she married Louis Felton May and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1961. She married Henry K. Howlett on September 18, 1965 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1981.
She worked in an automotive factory and was also a homemaker. Dorothy was a charter member of NARFE, Chapter 1984, in Jacksonville, Florida. A person of many varied interests, she enjoyed gospel singing, gardening, square dancing, sewing her square dance dresses, traveling, wearing hats, laughing and the color “red”. She was a member of Murray Hill United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Dorothy Louis May in 1934 and Shirley Ann Belcher in 1994; three sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by sisters, Sara Frerichs of Texas and Fay Stokes of Maryland; grandson Derric Belcher and great-granddaughter Katie Belcher; seven nieces and eleven nephews.
