Dorothy Ruth Bull Murrell, 80, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Clay Strawn of First United Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born December 27, 1935 in Hubbard to Woodrow Wilson and Jewel Maybell (Thomas) Dool. A 1954 graduate of Hubbard High School, she went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Women’s University in 1958 and later earned her Master’s degree in Education also from TWU. For more than 30 years, Dorothy taught elementary and special education in Arlington, Milford, and Maypearl until her retirement in 1991. On July 27, 1955, she married Nolan Bull and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1993. She later married Earl Murrell on November 14, 1998.
From 1991-1992, she served as National President with AMVETS Auxiliary. Dorothy traveled the world that year with the AMVETS Auxiliary including observing the 50th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor and visiting all 50 states, four Canadian Provinces, and six foreign countries. She was a life member of AMVETS Auxiliary #72 in Hillsboro and volunteered through AMVETS at the VA hospitals in Marlin and Temple. A very active member of First United Pentecostal Church in Hillsboro, Dorothy was especially involved with the Bible Quiz team.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, David Nolan Bull; and two siblings, Jack Dool and Donna Kay Cook.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Murrell of Hillsboro; four children, Clarance W. Bull and wife, Jo Ann, of Porter, Jimmy Wayne Bull and wife, Margie, of Shreveport, LA, Kenneth Bull and wife, Helen, of Mineral Wells, and Linda Dicke and husband, Bill, of Bulverde; three brothers, Jerry Dool and wife, Lanette, of Monroe, LA, Jimmy Dool and wife, Tammy, of Hillsboro, and David Paul Dool of Alvarado; four sisters, Ann Kocian of Smithville, Elizabeth Strawn and Sarah Mulkey, both of Hillsboro, and Willie Mae Carrington of Itasca; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
