Dorothy Jean Smith, 90, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, of Fort Worth passed away Monday, August 27, 2018, in Fort Worth. She lost a valiant battle against malignant brain cancer. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Blanton Cemetery with Mr. Doug Martin officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born March 7, 1928, in Osceola, to Charlie Elmer and Clemmie Pearl (Hight) Jean. A wonderful and devoted mother, Dorothy raised three children on her own. After 30 years of service, she retired from J. C. Penney. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and a member of the Village Creek Church of Christ.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Vernon Jean, Cortez Jean, Douglas Jean; and a sister, Ruby Jean Perkins.
Survivors include her three children, Danny Smith, Terry Smith and wife, Candace, and Donna Crowl and husband, Larry; brother, Hollis Jean and wife, Kathy; three sisters, Leta Jean Matthews, Robbie Jean Holt, and Wanda Jean Fechtner; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1700 Lake Success Drive, Waco, TX 76710.
