Dorris Williams Richardson, 101, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. John Nader of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in North Zulch, Madison County, Texas on December 30, 1916 to Dr. William George Williams, Jr. and Mellie Frances Taylor Williams, she was the last of six children and the last surviving sibling. The family was active in the community and attended the Primitive Baptist Church in North Zulch.
The family moved to West Texas in 1926, residing in Brownwood, Menard, and settling in Rockwood in southern Coleman County. The family joined the Rockwood Methodist Church and Dorris was a 1934 graduate of Rockwood High School. On December 28, 1936, she married Samuel Eugene (Gene) Richardson, also of the Rockwood community.
In 1942, they moved to a farm/ranch near Coleman and lived there the remainder of their married lives. The couple united with the First Methodist Church of Coleman, where she was active in the Nichols Bible Class and the Nannie Beaumont Circle, holding offices in both groups. She received the WSCS Honorary Pin as a recognition of her faithful service.
Following the death of her husband in 1989, Dorris relocated to Hillsboro to be near her family, Betty and Will Lowrance. She attended the First United Methodist Church as an associate member while maintaining her membership in the Coleman church.
Dorris Richardson is survived by her daughter, Betty Lowrance and husband, Will, of Hillsboro; grandson, Fred Andrew Lowrance and wife, Diane, and great-grandchildren, Hayden Andrew, Brooke Elizabeth, and William Burcham, all of Coppell; sister-in-law, Loyce Phenix of Glen Rose; nephew William Taylor McGill of Hillsboro; niece, Carolyn Williams and husband, Chris, of Houston; nephew, Donald L. Williams and wife, Liza, of Lakehills; nieces, Ruth Ann Godfrey and husband, Mark, of Jarrell, Cynthia Richardson and husband, Randy, of Glen Rose, Arnetta Cooper of San Angelo; nephews, O. L. Cooper of Aledo, Dr. Bid Cooper and wife, Twynette, of Snyder, Cleve West of San Angelo, Max Richardson of Santa Anna, and Charles Richardson of Midland; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
