Doug Bush

Doug was born October 19, 1921 in the Smith Bend Community, of Hill County, Texas to Jacob Bird and Mary Melvina Burney Bush. He was raised in the Smith Bend Community and lived in the Whitney area most of his life. On January 19, 1941 he married Adeline Shelley in Whitney. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army. In 1983 he retired as owner and operator of Bush Grocery. He was a member of VFW Post #8571 and the board of directors of Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery Association. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Eugene Bush and Samuel Bush; and two sisters, Opal Holt and Beaulah Caddy. Survivors include his wife, Adeline Bush of Whitney; two children, Reta June Zimmerman and husband, Richard, of Fort Worth and Jerry Bush and wife, Donna, of Whitney; two brothers, James Wilbur Bush of Clifton and Robert Lee Bush of Waco; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
