Douglas Crain

Douglas Hugh Crain, 75, of Hubbard passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Ricky L. Woodall of First Baptist Church in Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery near Hubbard. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2013, at the funeral home.

Doug married Donna Day in Hubbard on December 20, 1962 and they made their home in Hillsboro from 1970 until they returned to Hubbard in 2010 to live on farmland that has been in the Crain family for almost 130 years.

Doug was a fan of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, Dallas Cowboys, and the Baylor Bears. In fact, he was a fan of sports, in general, acting as a coach and referee in many different sports through the years. He especially loved spending time with his family, friends, and, without a doubt, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - and they loved him, in return. You often heard, "Everybody loves Granddad!" Anybody who knew Doug also knew that they were in for a great laugh or two. He was a loving family man who enjoyed working with his cows, feeding his ducks, petting his cats and scratching his dog's ears.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his family and friends for his great humor, kind heart, and fun loving personality. We will miss him dearly and look forward to the time that we will all get to sit around and visit again.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna Crain; two brothers, W.J. Crain and wife, Irma, and James Grady Crain; sister, Marjorie McClain and husband, JC Garner; daughter, Debra Crain Rogers and husband, Scott; son, Chris Crain and wife, Melanie; 10 grandchildren, Candice Frosch and husband, Larry, Bryan Tull and wife, Chelsi, Amanda Taylor and husband, Ryan, Shelby Bettinger and husband, Kyle, Coltin Jellison, Courtney Kofnovec, Catey Kofnovec, Blake Crain, Dorothy Rogers, and Gwen Rogers; and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Providence Hospice and Benny Urban, for the compassionate and loving care he provided to both Doug and the entire family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030 or First Baptist Church, 501 Magnolia Ave., Hubbard, TX 76648.
