Doyle Cathey

Herbert (Doyle) Cathey (Preccher), 88, ascended to heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 8, 2022. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Bethlehem cemetery in Whitney with Jerry and Sonny Cathey officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney.

Doyle was born November 28, 1933, to John Cathey and Irene Anderson in Towash, Texas which is now located beneath Lake Whitney, Whitney, Texas. He spent his childhood and young adult life in Texas, around Hillsboro, Texas and Waco, Texas. Doyle was good friends with Willie Nelson throughout his life.

Doyle lived a simple life and his father worked at the local cotton mill. Naturally Doyle spent time working at the cotton mill as well, before meeting his late wife of 32 years Betty Cathey. During the early years of their marriage Doyle and Betty became paper hangers and then later Doyle found his passion running a motor grader which he perfected over a 50 years career, during this time he earned certificates awarded by the state of Texas as the top operator in the state of Texas. Within the early days of Doyle and Bettys marriage they both found Jesus and Doyle spent the rest of his life preaching the Gospel of jesus Christ, know to most as a "preacher". Close friends knew him as Bones, but only Jesus and his momma knew him as Herbert.

Doyle was a simple man filled to the brim with love and generosity, always doing more than most would for other people. If he liked you, which he did, you were known as "easy". He was a lover of the Lord and his animals, always having cows and donkeys to protect those cows. He never aspired to have wealth or luxury. Given the choice of meals, he would gladly enjoy fried chicken or a special trip to Golden Corral.

Doyle enjoyed fishing for catfish or deep sea, though his favorite past time by far was reading and teaching the word of God. Throughout his adult life he preached, started churches, married many couples, baptized in Jesus name, hosted a radio channel and until his passing regularly hosted teachings 3 nighter per week on Facebook.

Doyle Cathey will be forever cherished, loved and remembered by not only by his family but the many who were impacted by his teachings and his gentle spirit. Today we celebrate his life and honor his passing to be with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, John Cathey and Irene Anderson; his wife, Betty Cathey; his brothers, Gerald Cathey, Lawrence Ray Cathey and Donald Cathey; his daughter, Sultra Thompson; and his granddaughter, Sheree Barnes.

Doyles is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Ruby Cathey; his sons, J.D., Wesley Cathey, Gerald Cathey, Bobby Cathey and Kevin Cathey; his grandchildren, Bobby Cathey, Christopher Cathey, Clint Cathey, Toney Cathey, Steve Ferguson, Jeremiah Cathey, Ginger Martin, Ashley Cathey, Kayla Thompson, Kristle Council, Michael Cathey, Elizabeth Cathey, Kevin Thompson and more than 20 great-grandchildren.
