Dwain A. Barnard, 88, of Hillsboro died Friday, March 19, 2010, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Dwain was born February 20, 1922 in Mertens the son of John Thomas and Florence Christine Brewer Barnard. He graduated from high school in Delia in Limestone County, where he played basketball. He worked with his father on the farm and had to help get the crops in before he could start school each year. He entered the Army right after high school along with two brothers who were in the Air Force and the Navy. After returning from the war, he married Neta McCraw in Milford and they lived on a farm near Mertens. He also farmed in Prairie Hill before going to work for TP&L for several years, during which time he moved to Hillsboro. In the early sixties, he went to work for Certain Teed Corp, where he was employed for 21 years. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Rangers and the Cowboys. He was a charter member of Church On The Hill in Hillsboro. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Lloyd Barnard; and sister, Martha Killough. Survivors include his wife, Neta Barnard of Hillsboro; children, Louise Dodd of Burleson and David Barnard and wife, Pam, of Palestine; brother, Boyd Barnard and wife, Nina, of Arlington; five grandchildren, Grady McClung and wife, Rachel, of San Antonio, Tom McClung and wife, Carrie, of Bryan, Michelle Harris and husband, Daniel, of Ardmore, OK, Meredith Drewett and husband, Roy, of Tyler, and Megan Louis and husband, Walt, of Charlotte, NC; and 11 great-grandchildren.
