Edith Marie (Bruton) Dandridge, age 93, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at her home in Hillsboro, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 16 at First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Tommy Prud’homme officiating.  Interment will be at Itasca Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on September 15 from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Edith was born on April 4, 1928, in the Rockwall Community, east of Itasca.  She was the daughter of Joseph Arthur Bruton and Lillie Ada (Bradham) Bruton.  She received her early education at the Rockwall Rural School before graduating from Itasca High School in 1945.  Edith then attended Hillsboro Jr. College, graduating in 1948.  Shortly after graduation, she began work in the business office of Hillsboro ISD.  She later worked as secretary and bookkeeper for the Hill County Special Education Coop.  She returned to the Hillsboro ISD Administration Office in 1991 and worked there until her retirement in August 2000.

Edith married William Wayne Dandridge on June 6, 1953, in Itasca, Texas.  They spent forty-three happy years together until his death on March 15, 1997.

She is a longtime member of First United Methodist Church which she attended regularly until her health began to fail.

Her greatest joys were her Faith, her family, working in her yard, cooking and the Texas Longhorns.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Edith was a member of the Hill College Century Club, Hill County Museum where she was a Board member, Hill County Retired School Personnel, Les Causeuses Club and Texas Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, two sisters-in-law, one grandchild and one daughter-in-law.

She is survived by her sons Bill Dandridge (Ann) of Dallas, Larry Dandridge (Amanda) of Dallas, Mike Dandridge (Mary) of Leander; grandchildren Marjorie Ballew (Aubrey) of Fort Worth, Joseph Dandridge (Sara) of Tyler and Luke Dandridge of Tyler; two step grandsons Danny Swann of Winnsboro and Dustin Swann of Pittsburg; one great grandchild Bellamy Ballew; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A luncheon reception for family and friends will be held at noon on Thursday prior to the service in the Family Life Center at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall & Marshall in Hillsboro.
