Edward Leon "Sonny" Athey

Edward Leon " Sonny" Athey, age 77 of McGregor Texas passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021, at his residence in McGregor. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at New Woodbury Cemetery with Rev. Robyn Young, Rev. Amy Anderson and Rev. Melissa Graham officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 am prior to the service at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney.

Edward was born March 24, 1944, in Hillsboro Texas to Thomas Howard and Dorothy (Worley) Athey. He was born and raised in Hillsboro and attended schools in Hillsboro. Edward served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1968, he then went to work for Bell Helicopter for 40 years retiring in 2007. He collected pocket watches, coins, loved woodworking and love to travel and restore old trucks.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Edward is survived by his wife, Shirlynn Athey; his children, Robert Athey and fiancée Lori Blann, Douglas Warren and wife Melissa, Carl Warren, Steven Athey, and Joseph Athey and wife Holly; brother, Gerald Athey and wife Barbara; sister, Nancy Schusler and husband Mark;  17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
