Edward Ray
Edward Ray 87, of Whitney, passed away on September 15, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Whitney. Rev. Billy Don Webb will be officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery near Whitney.
Edward was born on July 1, 1930 in Austin, Texas to Henry and Gertrude (Rhodes) Ray. On November 21, 1953 he married Edna Dee Riddle in Wichita Falls, Texas and they were blessed with 50 years of marriage, before she preceded him in death on March 3, 2013.
Ray and Edna made Whitney their home for 50 years. Having no children of their own they helped their family raise their children. A nephew James Michael Ray was taken in to their home at birth and was raised as their own child. Ray and Edna have been blessed with many children to love and opened their home and hearts to everyone.
Ray served his country in the United States Army from March 29, 1951 to April 2, 1953. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Open Range Cowboy Church in Whitney. He enjoyed fishing, camping, frying catfish and attending chili cook-offs. Ray was the owner and operator of Ray’s Roofing until retiring in 1998. He was a lifetime member of The American legion Post # 522 in Whitney.
Preceding him in death were his parents, 6 brothers, Howard, Hubert, Elmer, Odie, James and Charles Ray, 3 sisters, Dixie Bartley, Dolly McCord, and Lottie B. Mulkey.
Survivors include his son James Michael Ray and wife, Sandy of Blum; grandson, Michael Dewayne Ray and wife, Melissa; great-grandson, Easton Ray all of Blum. Numerous nieces and nephews.
