Edwin Leon Cockerham

Edwin Leon Cockerham, 91, of Itasca, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at home.  Funeral services will take place at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, with burial to follow in the Itasca Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from noon to 1:00pm, Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Marshall and Marshall.

Born in Pluto, Texas on February 19, 1931, to John Lee and Ludie Jane (Patman) Cockerham, Leon spent his childhood years on the family farm.  He attended Weatherford College and played football on the last football team the college had.  He was united in marriage to Mary Van (Wyatt) Cockerham, and she preceded him in death on September 21, 1998.  Leon and his brother, Herman, owned and operated a feed store together.  A lifelong resident of Itasca, Leon had a great love for the community, and was instrumental in starting the Itasca Landfill in 1974.  He was and avid farmer and rancher and enjoyed baling hay.  Leon loved working with children, coaching both Little League and Pony League baseball and was an active member of the Itasca Lions Club.  He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Itasca.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Hettie and her husband, Mayo Grantham; his brothers, J.T and his wife, Florette Cockerham, Ardrus Cockerham, Herman and his wife, Patsy Cockerham and infant brothers, Marvin and Raymond Cockerham.  He is survived by his partner (better half), Glenda Walker; his daughter, Kay Hubbard and husband Jay: his sons, Mike Cockerham and wife, Sherry, Mark Cockerham and wife, Lorna, Robert Cockerham and wife, Donna: step daughter, Sharron Watson; step sons, Donald Ward and wife, Ruth, Chad Walker, Patrick Gaddes and wife, Kyla, Jonathan Gaddes and wife, Helen; his brother, Truman Cockerham and wife, Theresa; his sister-in-law, Hortensia Cockerham; his friend and business associate, Todd Bons and wife, Beverlea; twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
