Edwin Arthur Schaffer, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Friday morning, August 14, 2015, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2015, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Edwin was born April 18, 1927 in Otto to Fred Carl and Anna Rosa (Housler) Schaffer. He served his country in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. After the war ended, he joined the United States Navy. On March 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Catherine Walker in Hillsboro. For 8 years, he was employed at CertainTeed in Hillsboro and at General Tire for a number of years. Edwin also owned and operated a Texaco station in Victoria. He enjoyed to hunt, fish, and watch the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter, Sandra Louis Schaffer; son, Michael Schaffer; five brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Catherine Schaffer of Hillsboro; six children, Tom Schaffer and wife, Carolyn, of Peoria, Larry Schaffer of Dallas, Jerry Schaffer and wife, Bea, of West, Cathy Neyhard and husband, David, of McGregor, Cindy Glenn and husband, Roger, of McGregor, and James Schaffer, of Hillsboro; 14 grandchildren, Shane Schaffer and wife, Jennifer, of Pflugerville, Chad Schaffer and wife, Maranda, of Brownwood, Christopher Nelson of Whitney, Michael Schaffer, Jr. of Wolfe City, Jennifer Schaffer of West, Melissa Lott and husband, Chris, of West, Amanda Bitterman and husband, Earl, Elm Mott, David Neyhard and wife, Krystal, of Hewitt, Amy Kuzniarek and husband, Kyle, of Hewitt, Teri Reeves and husband Scott, of McGregor, Roger Glenn, Jr. and wife, Julie, of Grosbeck, Angela Glenn of McGregor, James R. Schaffer and wife, Cheri, of Woodstock, CT, and Jacque Schaffer and Kenny Hubbard of Alvarado; 21 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Jason Weir, of Hillsboro.
