Eleanor Elam, 82, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, at Holly Hills Memorial Park in Granbury. Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, at the funeral home.
Eleanor was born July 31, 1940, in Baytown, TX, to Albert Cecil and Margueritte (Adkison) Smith. On June 13, 1964, she was united in marriage to Earl Henry Elam at Handley United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, TX.
For 25 years, Eleanor taught in elementary education, fifteen of those as a Kindergarten teacher. She was rewarded for her teaching skills and was very much loved by her students, even to this day. Following her retirement, she worked in church nurseries and with youth ministries, as well as becoming a Stephen Minister.
A very positive person, everyone loved Eleanor for who she was. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and traveling with Earl. She was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Eleanor was the best thing that happened in the life of her husband. Her children and grandchildren express that she exudes the essence of love as an idealistic mother and grandmother. Her first priority was her family who “loved her more”.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, William and Robert Smith; and a grandchild, Kennedy Reynolds.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Earl Elam; daughters, Karen Havenhill, Karla Elam, and Kasie Reynolds (Rick); brother, Fred Smith; and grandchildren, Ryan Havenhill (Katherine), Reagan, Reynolds, and Reid Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
