Ella Walter

Ella Eleanor Lena Lydia Schiebel Walter died March 12, 2013 at the age of 103 in Alexandria, Virginia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Private family inurnment will be held at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Malone, Texas.

Mrs. Walter was born in Nicollet, Minnesota on March 7, 1910. She married The Rev. Alvin A. Walter in St. Peter, Minnesota on April 26, 1936. The Walter family lived in Watonga, Ardmore and Hinton, Oklahoma, and Hufsmith (Tomball), Malone, LaGrange and Hillsboro, Texas. Alvin preceded her in death on July 22, 1990 in Hillsboro after 54 years of marriage.

Mrs. Walter belonged to the ladies’ organizations in the various churches where her husband served as pastor. She made paraments for some of the congregation’s use. She was an excellent seamstress and made all of her children’s clothes as well as her own for many years. She baked bread and canned fruits, vegetables and preserves. She made many quilts and crocheted a variety of items including bedspreads and numerous afghans. In later years she became an avid reader.

Mrs. Walter was also preceded in death by her parents, August and Augusta Hopp Schiebel; her brothers, Otto Schiebel and wife, Wilhelmina, and wife, May, Fritz Schiebel and wife, Mabel, and William Schiebel and wife, Clara; her sisters Emma Krohn and husband, Henry, Frieda Compart and husband, Fred, and Clara Gesch and husband, Edward; and her daughter Elaine Costello.

Survivors are her son, Nathan Walter and wife, Margie, of Brenham, Texas; daughters, Wanda Adams of Fort Worth, Texas, Carol Guebert and husband, Steve, of Marshall, Virginia, and Lynda Squires of Lewisville, Texas. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Ev. Lutheran Church,3233 Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA 22042 or the American Cancer Society, 1700 Lake Success Drive, Waco, TX 76710.
