Ellen Cleo (Young) Feagan

Services are pending for Ellen Young Wentworth Feagan, who died peacefully at home, January 16, 2024. Ellen Cleo Young was born April 24, 1925, along with a twin sister, Helen Theo Young. Ellen lived her life without her sister, however, because Helen died about three months after their birth. Ellen grew into a loving sister, wife and mother. She worked hard all her life to support her family, first her brothers, then her children and always her church family.

Ellen was a charter member and helped to start Ridglea Christian Church. In her more than fifty years of serving as a Disciple of Christ, Ellen accepted election as chair of many church committees, as well as deaconess, trustee, and elder. She taught Sunday school, served on the RCC board of directors, and led the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a tireless participant in most of the church’s activities, with one exception – Ellen never sang in the choir. And for this we can all be thankful because Ellen did two things wrong when she sang. Number one, she sang melodies never intended by composers. Number two, she sang very LOUDLY. Ellen was beloved by church members, and the children will always remember her as the lady who brought fresh-baked brownies to church every Sunday.

She used her talents to benefit others. Since she could operate a sewing machine, she made polyester blankets for nursing facilities and homeless people. She knitted afghans, crocheted baby blankets, and hand stitched patchwork quilts. She also donated many of these items.

She is survived by her two children Brenda Wentworth of Fort Worth and Chuck Wentworth now residing in the Philippines; two grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Ridglea Christian Church will announce the date and time of the memorial service in February. (The church will stream the memorial service from its accounts on YouTube and Facebook.) The family has designated Ridglea Christian Church as a preferred charity. A private interment will be held in Hillsboro under direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors (https://www.marshallandmarshallfd.com/).
