Ellen Norine Leggett, 84, of Mertens died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. Norine was born May 6, 1925 in Whitney the daughter of Pearl Edmer and Bessie Norine Williams Bartley. For a while she grew up in Bosque County and then moved to Hill County as a child. On May 1, 1943 she married Melvin Ray Leggett in Hillsboro. Norine wore many hats. She was a homemaker, worked 10 years at Woods of Texas, worked 15 years for Ennis Business Forms in Milford, and was a postal employee in Mertens for 11 years. She was very active and involved in the support of her community. A lifetime member of Eastern Star Chapter #769, Norine was also a member of First Baptist Church in Mertens. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Ellen Ann Kirby; son-in-law, Bennie G. Kirby; 2 sisters, Gloria Mae Gentry and LouElla Brown; 2 brothers, Travis and Carl Bartley; and 3 brothers-in-law, Harold Brown, C. D. Ratliff, and Amos Gentry. Survivors include her children, Richard Leggett and fiancé, Wanda Huff, of Mertens and Darlene Haden and husband, David, of Dresden; brother, Troy Bartley of Fort Worth; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
