Elnita Clay, 90, of Hillsboro died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Elnita was born November 4, 1916 in Bandera, Texas the daughter of James Rufus and Laura Davenport Evans. She graduated high school in Bandera. In 1940 she married William Odell Clay and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1975. For 45 years she worked as a clothing inspector for Wood of Texas and Malouf. She loved to cook and quilt and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Levi, Bubba, and Otis Evans; three sisters, Bertyce Clayton, Eltis Saathoff, and Helen Adelaide Evans; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Evans, Clara Clay Showaker, Martha Clay, and Lenora Clay; and two brothers-in-law, Edwin and Weldon Clay. Survivors include five children, Lanita Jane Clay of Hillsboro, Dorothy Ann Davis and husband, Douglas, of Oklahoma City, OK, Clark Odell Clay and wife, Judy, of Fairview, Vivian Louise Wilson and husband, Sammy, of Itasca, and Sandra Clay Orr and husband, Gwynn, of Hillsboro; two sisters, Zylpha Stach of Temple and Daphna Callahan of Brady; nine grandchildren, Liz Willman and husband, Chuck, of Longview, Annette Lester and husband, David, of Emory, Molly Baucum and husband, Jay, of Heath, Tracie Smith and husband, Jamie, of Long Island, NY, Robby Clay and wife, Amanda, of Omaha, NE, Craig Clay of McKinney, Joe Clay Wilson and wife, Christi, of Grandview, Julie Mack and husband, Todd of Bryan, and Bryan Rich of College Station; ten great-grandchildren, Davis and Andrew Baucum, Austin and Jake Lester, Justin and Harrison Smith, Toby Clay, Meaghan and Shae Wilson, and Ferrell Mack; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 673, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
