Emily Ann (White) Evans

Emily Ann White Evans, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, in the Grandview Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2023, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro.  Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the funeral home.

She was born June 29, 1938, in Paris, Texas and moved to Hillsboro at the age of six months.  She was a lifelong resident of Hillsboro, which she always called home.

Emily was known as Mama, Granny, and Mama Evans.  “Granny” was the most special of names to her.  You could ask her how she was and she would always reply “I’m meaner than ever.”  Mama was never mean to anyone, but she was just stern when it came to disciplining her four boys who she cherished and loved unconditionally.

She loved to work alongside her son, Gary, for many years in his tearoom and then his flower shop.  It kept her active after retirement years.  Her son, David, who was her fishing buddy, would always try and take her fishing when he would come up and visit if he wasn’t taking care of a honey doo list, or you could call it a sonny do list of maintenance items she needed done in the home in which she lived in for 51 years.

She was the daughter of Harold C. White and Ava Olwen Ewing.  She married Franklin Delano (Jug) Evans on February 17, 1955, in Hugo, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2002.  They had four children, all boys including John Harold Evans, who passed away May 27, 1988, Gary Evans, Robert Earl Evans, who passed away October 11, 2004, and David Evans.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Evans of Hillsboro and David Evans and wife, Candice, of Lumberton; six grandchildren, Christopher K. Evans, Savanah N. Evans, Eric D. Evans, Jonathan A. Evans and wife, Katiee, Joshua C. Evans and wife, Juliana, and Joanna Evans; two great-grandchildren, Jyah and Elise; and several nieces and nephews including Lu Ann Henry.

Emily touched so many people with her spunkiness and feisty attitude and personality.  She was a beautiful, loving, and caring mother and grandmother.  Her eyes enhanced her beauty and so did her style of dress – everything had to match and coordinate precisely.  Emily was just an amazing lady.

She had three special people in her life she considered family, Rosanna Handy, Julia Grantom, and Joel Macha – they were all so special to Emily, but Rosanna was definitely there for her the most, what a special bond they had.

Emily had also lost another very special person in her life, Kay Clements.  Emily was so lost without her best friend and sidekick Kay.  The two of them held such a special bond and a true friendship.

Memorials may be made to the Hill County Paw Pal’s, P. O. Box 1533, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
