Emma Johnson

Emma Mae Johnson, 88, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 11, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Frost ISD Performing Arts Center. Interment will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to service time at the Frost ISD Performing Arts Center.

Emma Mae was born March 25, 1924 in Brushie Prairie to the late Robert E. and Eliza C. Schultz. She attended schools in Brushie Prairie and Pelham. She graduated from high school at G. W. Jackson in Corsicana and later was a 1947 graduate of Huston Tillotson College in Austin.

She confessed Christ at an early age and attended Saint’s Delight United Methodist, where she served as a musician, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and Lay speaker. Emma Mae was a long time volunteer for the 4-H club and was a member of the Heroines of Jericho.

While attending college, she met her husband of 62 years, the late Lee Roy Johnson. While carrying a saxophone, Lee Roy convinced Emma Mae that he was a well known jazz player. They united in holy matrimony on June 12, 1948 and Lee Roy never played the saxophone!

Emma Mae was a distinguished educator for the Frost Independent School District for over 40 years and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She retired in 1989.

Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Eugene, Garland, Walter, and Robert; and sisters, Eula Meekins, Juanita Nelson, and Vivian Manning.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Adrain; grandson, Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Kaniyah and Jayveon; brothers, Marcellas and Roland Schultz; and a host of nieces and nephews.
