Emogene Gibson

Emogene Gibson, 91, of Arlington, formerly of Whitney, passed away on July 1, 2019 in an Arlington hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney, with Rev. Danny Chappell officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service.

Emogene was born on October 11, 1927, in Slayton, Texas, to George and Zora Mae (Shanks) Stafford. She grew up in Prairie Hill where she also graduated. After high school, she went to work as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Waco.

On November 2, 1946, she married Jack Gibson and was then a housewife until 1965 when she attended Truman Beauty School in Waco where she also opened her own beauty shop. In 1972, she moved to Whitney and worked at Lanelle’s Beauty Shop at the Bonanza Station until her retirement in 1989.

An avid quilter, she enjoyed sewing, loved to garden and grow flowers, liked bird watching, playing bingo and going to Bible study. Emogene was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitney, the Whitney Eastern Star Chapter and the Blum Eastern Star Chapter.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jack Gibson, on July 28, 2013; and a son, Jack Gibson, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Pam Malone of Mansfield and Mark Gibson and wife, Carrie of Azle; grandchildren, Chris Malone and wife, Melinda, Kristel Wilkins and husband, Jason, Julianna Gibson, Lila Gibson and Andrew Gibson; great-grandchildren, Blake Malone, Grant Wilkins, Tate Wilkins and Maddie Wilkins; and sister Dorothy Johnson.
