Erma Jane Degner passed away October 26, 2005 at Hill Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was born October 26, 1925 east of Malone and grew up in the Malone area near the Salem Community. She graduated from Malone High School. She married Victor ?Shorty? Degner on December 25, 1944 and they lived and farmed west of Bynum for several years. In 1948 they moved near the Honey Flat Community between Bynum and Irene, where they raised a family, farmed and ranched until the present time. She loved her family, friends, the family farm and her farm animals. In her later years her main hobbies were her cattle, pets, and cooking. She enjoyed the farm life very much and was very involved with the day to day farming operation that went on around her. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, a good rain and watching the crops grow. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mattie Lentz Sonnenberg and F.O. ?Fred? Sonnenberg of Malone. Her husband Victor ?Shorty? Degner of Bynum, one daughter Debbie Schneider of Hillsboro, and one daughter-in-law Kathy Degner of Bynum, and brother Milton E. Sonnenberg. She is survived by one son Larry Degner of Bynum, one son-in-law Don Schneider of Hillsboro, five grandchildren; Jason Degner of Bynum, Christine Cordell and husband Kelly of Hillsboro, Bryan and Lyndsey Schneider of Hillsboro, and Jeremy Schneider and wife Cheryl of Morgan, two great grandchildren, Madison and Abigail Cordell of Hillsboro, Sarah Stankiewicz and daughter Cheyenne of Bynum and many other friends and relatives. Pallbearers will be Darren Degner, Bob Degner, Gene Lilley, Lawrence Slater, Kenneth Kucera, Josh Birdwell, Tommy Davis and Tim Pullin. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
