Erma Morgan

Erma E. Morgan, 97, of Whitney, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Town Hall Nursing Home in Whitney. She was only 10 days away from her 98th birthday. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Wadell Schronk officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughan Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the funeral home.

Erma was born on March 21, 1918, in Aquilla, the daughter of Nat D. And Nellie Rose (Kirkpatrick) Thomas. Erma’s husband, Frank Myers, died before their second child was born.
She later married Leslie Hall and they owned and operated Hall Grocery in Peoria. The had one daughter. Leslie died in 1973. Erma then married Henry Morgan of Whitney. They were married for 35 years when he also died. Henry and Erma enjoyed fishing on the Texas Coast and she also enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

A member of Peoria Baptist Church since 1953, she was active in the her church even while working Monday through Saturday at the store. A kind and giving lady who loved to feed and take care of others, she could always be found helping out with church luncheons, dinners and feeding neighboring children breakfast before they went to school. Her sourdough biscuits were famous throughout the Vaughan and Peoria communities. There was always an extra plate at the table for Larry, David, and Bobby after they lost their mom.

She was very meticulous about her work, her home environment and how she treated others, so much so that the pecan trees in her yard did not dare to drop a leaf in her presence. A warm and precious lady, not only to all that knew her, but more importantly, in the sight of the Lord.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Nat and Nellie Thomas, three husbands, Frank Myers, Leslie Hall and Henry Morgan; eight brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Bryan Schronk.

Her survivors include three children, Shirley Davis of Vaughan, Frank Myers and wife, Charlotte of Vaughan, and Debbie Schronk and husband Wadell of Mayfield; grandchidren, R.A, Davis of Vaughan, Regina Horn and husband, Ronnie of Vaughan, Kimberly Bobo and husband, Tim, of Bedford, Michelle Sherman and husband, Brian of Bedford, Brad Schronk and wife Terri of Riesel; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made in her name to Peoria Baptist Church, 1347 FM 1947, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
