Ernest William Barrett passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012, in Whitney. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Mr. Glenn Gray of the Aquilla Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Scott’s Chapel Cemetery in Aquilla. Vistation will be on Friday at the funeral home.
Ernest was born on February 12, 1918, in Hill County, Texas, to the late Wylie R. and Henrietta (Johnson) Barrett. He married Melva Voe Wynnona Williford on June 24, 1942 in Hillsboro, Texas. Ernest served his country in World War II in the United States Air Force as a sergeant in the 8th Fighter Group USAF. He worked for General Tire in Waco for many years before his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ernest was a member of Aquilla Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melva Voe Barrett, on September 26, 2010; sister, Alyne Burkes; and a son, Clyde Douglas Martin on June 2, 2006.
Survivors include his extended family, Majane Martin and husband Jim Wiethorn; Paul and Debbie Marable; Jenny Martin Terrell and husband, Kelly; John Martin; Elizabeth and Tyler Sobczak; and Rebecca Wallace; one sister Mamie Robinson; niece, Frances Beatty and husband, Charles; nephew Cotton Tanner.
Memorial may be made to the Scott’s Chapel Cemetery Association, 122 FM 1304, Aquilla, TX 76622.
