Estalee “Pete” Curtis, 99, of Bynum passed away Thursday morning, November 10, 2016, at St. Catherine’s Providence Hospice Place in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Estalee was born October 4, 1917 in Abbott to Oscar and Addie Ellen (Spruce) Thompson. A 1934 graduate of Abbott High School, she went on to attend Hill Junior College and later received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Texas Women’s University. On September 17, 1939, Estalee and Edward O. Curtis were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on December 13, 1961.

In 1964, Estalee became the Postmater for the Bynum Post Office. After leaving the post office in 1966, she spent the next 30 years employed as a social worker for the State of Texas, retiring in 1990. She was a life-long and faithful member of Bynum Church of Christ before moving her membership to Hillsboro Church of Christ. Estalee was also a member of Hillsboro Eastern Star Chapter #769, Senior Circle, Lions Club, Woodmen of The World, Farm Bureau, and Germania. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and domino player. She loved her Lord and family very much. She never met a stranger.

The family would like to give very special thanks to Providence Hospice Place for their love and care to Mrs. Curtis over the last several weeks and to Quality Care of Waco for their love and tender care of her for the past seven years.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, Eddie Tom Curtis on November 23, 1984; two brothers, Dale Thompson and Edward Thompson; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Curtis, Zelda Thompson, and Leigh Thompson; daughter-in-law, Linda Curtis; granddaughter, Susan Simpson; great-grandson, William Simpson; and special friend, David Moyers.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Becky Vanek and Edward Tom Curtis, both of Bynum, and Teresa Harris of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Chad Vanek of Trinidad, Rhiannon Vanek of Bynum, Danyele Thompson of Waco, and Megan Secudino and Kevin Harris, both of Dallas; great-great grandchildren, Wyatt Avery Smith of Bynum and Kadence Thompson and Nathan Thompson, both of Killeen; niece, Anita Bishop and husband, Leon Ray, of New Braunfels; and nephew, Dale Thompson and wife, Janet, of Houston.
