Esther F. Symank, 87, of Malone passed away Friday, February 22, 2013, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Esther was born on October 20, 1925 in Hill County to Willie and Lillie (Radke) Hodde. On June 29, 1946, she married Herman Walter “Buster” Symank and he preceded her in death on October 12, 2006.
A part-time waitress, Esther also helped out with chores and tending to cattle on the family farm. For over 30 years, she served as secretary for the Farmer’s Mutual Lodge #30 in Malone. An avid gardener, she also enjoyed international travel, and many, many trips to Galveston. She was an excellent cook and was well known for making “Granny’s” chicken soup. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; grandson, Paul Symank; one sister, Lenora Hodde; and a foster sister, Elna Hodde.
Survivors include her three sons, Robert Symank and wife, Priscilla, of Robinson, Joe Symank and wife, Shanna, of Malone, and James Symank and wife, Patsy, of Arlington; two sisters-in-law, Lena Radke of Hillsboro and Edna “Sissy” Taylor of Irving; eight grandchildren, Jeremey Symank and wife, Lisa, of Frisco, Mark Symank and wife, Ashley, of Mansfield, Genelle Atkinson and husband, Kevin, Robert Symank, Jr. and wife, Samantha, and Elaine Guerra all of Robinson, Eric Symank of Waco, Aaron Symank of Corsicana, and Addison Symank of College Station; and five great-grandchildren.
