Ethel England

Ethel Pulliam England, 99, of Hillsboro entered into His gate with Thanksgiving on Sunday, October 12, 2008, in Hillsboro. Ethel was born December 17, 1908 in Hill County, Texas, where she lived all of her life. She was the daughter of the late George S. and Lula Frances Utley Pulliam, the third child of ten children. She attended the public schools in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1927 and Hillsboro College in 1929. In the seventh grade at a Thanksgiving party at Wm. Adam Kirkpatrick's is where her Heavenly Father pointed to Robert Judd England and said he is for you. She was sure he was the one God created for her. On December 8, 1931 she and Judd were married in the First Baptist Parsonage by their pastor, Rev. Alvin Swindill. He was the sweetheart and love of her life for 58 years, preceding her in death on January 28, 1989. After graduation from Hillsboro College, she went to work at L. Brin Department Store for 20 years. She then returned home to help Judd with all the farming operation and hay baling for what would be a wonderful year. A special blessing to them was when her sister, Grace and husband, Fred Langford, shared their two sons, Robert and Glenn, with them during the summer months when school was out in Waco. They did lots of work but had many good times. In 1946, she went back to work for Wilson Plumbing Company as a receptionist and bookkeeper. After three years of working there, she went back to the farm to enjoy farm life and all the blessings that it affords. From 1961-1962 she worked with the Girl Scouts, and also had a troup. She worked at the Hill County Therapy Center in 1963 and 1964. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro. An avid and devoted member of the church, she served in many places of leadership. She continued to work with the teenagers as she had at First Baptist Church. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert Lee Pulliam and George Baily Pulliam; four sisters, Mae Smead, Grace Langford, Gena Tinsley, and an infant sister; and three nephews, Davis Lee Pulliam, Mark Tinsley, and Robert F. Langford. Survivors include a brother, Davis Pulliam of Waco; sister, Frances Mourlatos and husband, Tony, of Tyler; nephews and nieces, Glenn Langford and wife, Carlene, of Houston, Mike Templeton and wife, Judy, of Georgetown, Elaine Martin and husband, Morris, of Denton, Leah Kay Shattuck and husband, Bill, of Tyler, Jimmy Smead of Fort Worth, Suzanne Rothrock and husband, David, of Weatherford, June Cody and husband, Rick, of Georgetown, Cindy Fadal and husband, Edmond, of Waco, and Scott Pulliam of Waco; and a host of very special friends.
