Eugene Kaddatz, 76, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Malone. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Born May 6, 1940 in Hillsboro at the old Boyd Sanitarium, he was the son of Edwin and Martha (Degner) Kaddatz. He grew up in the Rienzi Community and lived in Hill County most of his life. Following his graduation from Hubbard High School, he went to work for Safeway in Hillsboro. On May 15, 1960 at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone, Eugene was united in marriage to Beverly Pritchett. The couple moved to Grand Prairie in 1966, where he managed a Safeway store there. Eugene obtained his insurance license in the early 1970's and started working for National Life Insurance Company. In 1978, he transferred to Hillsboro. Not long after that, he went to work for American National Insurance Company until his retirement in 2006.
Eugene was known for his “big hands,” but even with that size he could do intricate, delicate work. He even took up playing the piano and calligraphy in his 60's. A lover of God’s land, Eugene took pride in caring and tending to his vegetable garden. In their leisure time, he and Beverly enjoyed traveling and camping together in their trailer. Eugene was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Anyone could tell that he read and studied his bible faithfully by the wear and tear on it.
Preceding him in death were his parents; loving wife, Beverly Kaddatz; and brother, Leonard Kaddatz.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, Dennis Kaddatz and wife, Lyn, and Sheila Bowman and husband, Mark, all of Hillsboro; brother, Don Kaddatz and wife, Sue, of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Emma Lee Kaddatz of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Phillip Bowman and wife, Holly, of Plano, Ethan Bowman and wife, Gayle, of Waxahachie, Lindsey Martin and husband, John, of Ft. Irwin, CA, Spencer Gunnels and husband, Cameron, of Cheyenne, WY, and Tyler Bowman of Waco; great-grandchildren, Collin Bowman, Macen Martin, Oliver Gunnels, and Hannah Bowman; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
