Eunice Horton Lewis, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Lake Whitney Medical Center in Whitney. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Pastor Wade Yarbro officiating. Burial will follow at Old Woodbury Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Eunice was born January 31, 1926 in Floydada to A. D. and Lena (Pierce) Horton. She grew up in the Covington area and graduated from Covington High School. On November 17, 1945 she married Melvin Lewis and he preceded her in death on July 30, 1998.
Eunice raised her family before going to work at Rose Marie’s for 16 years. For 50 years, she lived in the Woodbury Community before moving to Hillsboro 12 years ago. Her gift in life was her hospitality to others and she never turned anyone down for a meal or helping hand. She greatly cared for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was of the Methodist faith.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, Danny Lewis on May 4, 1999 and Milton Lewis on August 22, 2008; and two brothers, Joe Horton and Farris Horton.
Survivors include her four children, Camille Kelley of Hillsboro, Lanny Lewis and wife, Ronda, of Aquilla, Sharon Ridlehuber of Bynum, and Sam Lewis and wife, Mary, of Hillsboro; sister, Thala McDonald of Hurst; 20 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
