Evelyn Sewall

Evelyn Ann (Routh) Sewall, 87, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, January 25, 2016, at Town Hall Estates Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrel Beggs officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 29, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Evelyn was born October 6, 1928 in Brownwood to Alfred Pace and Kate (Green) Routh. After graduating from Zephyr High School, she raised and sold turkeys to pay for her education from Howard Payne University. Evelyn started her career in Hartley teaching math. On May 30, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald Sewall in Brownwood. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2012. In 1964 after her children were older, she returned to teaching in Bynum and retired in 1987 from Abbott. A 60 year and very active member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Evelyn and Donald also volunteered for a number of years with the Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders. In her spare time, she loved to sew, quilt, can, and garden.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Roy and William “Butch” Routh.

Survivors include her children, Thomas A. Sewall and wife, Marilyn, of Angel Fire, NM, John A. Sewall and wife, Vanita, of Oklahoma City, Donna Sewall Dockall and husband, Gary, of Friendswood, and Richard J. Sewall and wife, Lisa, of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Sarah Sweatt and husband, Josh, of Bryan, Veronica Steadman and husband, Patrick, of West Point, NY, Amanda Spurgin and husband, Leo, of Denver, CO, Christina Norton and husband, Kevin, of Tulsa, OK, Matthew Dockall and wife, Emily, of Houston, Rebecca Dockall of Houston, LeeAnn Dockall of Austin, Andrea Nors and husband, Aaron, of Abbott, and Scott Sewall and wife, Anna, of Amarillo; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
