Evelyn Irene (Musgrove) Thomas, 100, of Morgan, passed away on July 11, 2018 in Cleburne. The family will hold a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, August 3, 2018, at King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney.


Evelyn was born on September 29, 1917, in Walters, Oklahoma, to John and Grace (Howland) Musgrove. During World War II, she worked in California as a welder, and like many women who worked in this capacity during the war, she came to be known as a “Rosie the Riveter”. On February 14, 1942, she married Hallie Harold Thomas.

She was a teacher and taught at the elementary levels during most of her teaching career, retiring in the late 70's. She was of the Methodist faith.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Hal, in May 1987; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her children, Grace Miller of Whitney and Rene Drischler of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alpha Marshall of Victorville, California.

Memorials may be made in Evelyn’s name to King Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 612, Whitney, Texas 76692.
