Everett Isbell

Everett E. Isbell, 86, of Hillsboro died Sunday, August 5, 2007, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Everett was born October 25, 1920 in Hill County about six miles south of Hillsboro near Cobb Creek. He was the son of William ?Bill? D. and Ruth Isbell. Due to muddy roads, the doctor could not drive to their house in his Model T Ford car. Everett?s dad had to deliver him and tie the naval cord. When the doctor arrived later, he told Mr. Isbell that he had done a good job. He paid the doctor $5.00 and a cured ham. Everett entered the Arnott Rural School in first grade and later attended Jessie Rural School in Denton. He graduated from Abbott High School. After high school, he entered the 36th Division Texas National Guard in 1940. On November 25, 1942 he married Jonell Laurence. On September 9, 1943 he made the landing at Salerno Bay, Italy. Salerno was a fierce baptism of fire and death, where they lost many good men. He later made the invasion of Southern France. He spent over three years in Europe and returned home in December 1945. He received three Battle Stars, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and they even gave him the Good Conduct Medal. For 37 years he was employed as an insurance investigator in the insurance field. In 1985 he retired and enjoyed working at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors for a while. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post #4. He also enjoyed working as a Partner in Education at Hillsboro Junior High, working with Will Lowrance. His hobby was making walking canes and he made and gave away over 300 of them. Everett requested that anyone who has one of his canes to please attend his service and bring the walking cane with you. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Laurence D. Isbell, on September 16, 1991; brother, Eugene Isbell; and an infant sister. Survivors include the love of his life, Jonell Isbell of Hillsboro, whom he was married to for 65 years; son, Damon Isbell of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Brian, Kaleigh Ann, and Mollie Isbell all of Hillsboro, and Amy Jo Harold and Lauran Ann Paige both of Arlington; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Woodrow T. Isbell and wife, Tennie, of Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
