Federico P. Montes, Sr., 75, of Whitney passed away peacefully at his residence Friday evening, August 8, 2014 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 12th, at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Alfredo Montes officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A prayer service will also be held at 6:30 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
Federico was born April 28, 1939 in Goliad, Texas, the ninth child of ten children born to Pablo and Guadalupe Montes. Federico was married on Dec. 15, 1957 to Elisa Cantu Montes. The newlyweds lived in Oklahoma till 1963 when they moved to Ropesville, Texas. In 1967 the couple moved to Hillsboro where they remained.
Federico and Elisa were proud parents of seven children, Alma, Fred Jr., Luis, Mary, Eddie, Rosie, and Cristina. He was a faithful member of Hill Apostolic Church where he served as Deacon. Federico was a farmer and worked for Ray Sawyer for 28 years until he retired in 1997.
In March of 2014, Federico was diagnosed with cancer. He was cared for by his children and his niece, Sylvia Duron, until his departure to be with the Lord on Friday August 8th. He is preceded in death by his parents Pablo and Guadalupe Montes and beloved wife Elisa Cantu Montes and infant daughter Rosa Montes.
He will be missed by many and remembered for his unconditional love and acceptance of everyone, his compassion and kindness. He is now resting in the arms of Our Lord and Savior.
Survivors include seven children, Alma Montes, Fred Montes and wife, Cheryl, Luis Montes and wife, Jeanette, Mary Balli and husband, Tony, Eddie Montes and wife, Paula, Rosie Trujillo and husband, Gary, and Cristina Rodriquez and husband, Richard; one brother, Alfredo Montes and wife, Adela; one sister, Consuelo Abrego; 22 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
