Finis Algie Moore

Finis Algie Moore, age 94, passed away on February 17, 2023, in Hillsboro, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro, Texas. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas. A visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday, February 20, 2023 at Marshall and Marshall.

Finis was born September 16, 1928 to his loving parents John C. Moore and Alice Craig Durham Moore in Malone, Texas. At age 15 he went to work for M-K-T (Katy) Railroad for the summer.  Upon his sixteenth birthday he was employed full-time to help support his family.  In 1950, he married Betty Jean Myers from the Union Bluff community west of the city limits of Hillsboro, Texas.  While working for the railroad, Finis received several promotions to the position of Roadmaster.  He was recognized with service pins for years of service and for years worked without an injury.  He won Katy's Safety Motto Contest with the slogan "Safety First."  In 1989, on his 60th birthday he retired from Union Pacific Railroad having worked 44 years of injury-free service.

After retirement, he enjoyed his fruit and vegetable garden, picking up pecans in the fall, raising calves to fill his freezer, and riding in the local parades pulled by his horse, Buddy.  Finis continued to maintain his yard until he was 93 years young.  He enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Whitney.  He enjoyed having a booth at the Waco Flea Market on Saturday mornings.

Finis was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty Jean Moore; and sons Gary Finis Moore of Lubbock, Texas and Jimmy Don Moore of Hillsboro and three brothers; J.C., Frank, and Jim Tom; and 4 sisters, Audrey, Edry, Mary Alice, and Jo.

He is survived by his son, Billy Frank Moore, daughter Jeanie Goff and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Linda Lorene Moore, Gary Finis Moore Jr. and Nora, Crystal Goff, Mandy Rodriguez and husband Sammy, Jeremy Moore and wife Melanie, and Cindy Moore; 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
