Florence Rochelle

Florence Baker Rochelle, 90, formerly of Brandon passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 in a Whitney nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, September 19, 2011, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Edward Sumrall officiating. Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 PM Sunday.

Florence was born April 3, 1921 in Lebanon, Texas to Elburn Howard and Jennie Helen (Inmon) Baker. She grew up in Lebanon and attended school in Aquilla. On April 26, 1941 she married J. Y. Rochelle in Brandon where they spent most of their lives. Florence owned and operated the Cut & Style Beauty Shop for twenty years. Among her many talents were painting and various arts and crafts. She was also an avid reader.

Florence was an active member of many organizations including: the Hill County Extension Club, Cell Block Museum, 60 year member of the Texas Extension Education Association, 50 year member of the National Association for Family and Community Education, and Hill County Genealogical Society. She was also a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Brandon where she served as a deacon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband J. Y. Rochelle on June 15, 2001, grandson, Chris Rochelle, granddaughter, Becky Karlik, and great-grandson, Kyle Hunter Hosch.

Survivors include four sons, John Rochelle and wife Nola of West, Tim Rochelle and wife Jocelyn of Blum, David Rochelle and wife Sandy of Irene, and Phillip Rochelle and wife Saundra of Bynum; five sisters, Martha Lowry of Lewisville, Billie Bessire of Texas City, Frankie Lindsey of Euless, Helen Herron of Cleburne, and Dee Schrage of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one brother, Al Baker of Texas City; five grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
