Frances Dickey

Frances Wilkerson Dickey, 82, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016, following a lengthy illness at her home in Alvarado. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Rev. Amy Anderson of Line Street United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Frances was born February 23, 1933 in Hillsboro to Miller and Willie (Newsom) Wilkerson. A graduate of Hillsboro High School, she went on to attend cosmetology school in Waco and worked for a time at S. H. Kress and Texas Theater. After receiving her LVN license in 1961, Frances was employed with Grant-Buie Hospital in Hillsboro. She later worked at West Rest Haven for 24 years and was also employed at the infirmary at Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. For many years, Frances was a dedicated caregiver for private patients. A longtime and active member of Line Street United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, she served as financial secretary and also sang in the choir. An avid TV watcher, she especially enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, bull riding, ice skating, and cooking shows.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Kenneth Wilkerson; niece, Ann Bearden Farquhar; son-in-law, Ronnie Leonard; and brother-in-law, Wayne Bearden.

Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Leonard; sister, Juanell Bearden; two grandchildren, Matt Leonard and wife, Angela, and Randi Burtram and husband, Phillip; six great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dakota, Blake, and Alayna Leonard and Savon and Haley Burtram; and nephews and nieces, James Bearden and wife, Karen, Paul Wilkerson, Zach Farquhar, Seth Farquhar, and Nancy and Rebecca Bearden.
