Francis Derryl (Pete) McConathy was born on June 17, 1933 in Blum, Texas. He was the 11th of 12 children born to William Oscar and Serena Allie Offutt McConathy.
He graduated from Whitney High School in 1951, and married Norma Jean Latham on November 3, 1951. Together they raised three children: Ronnie, Barbara and Barry.
Papaw grew up working on the farm. Later he worked at Foremost Dairy, General Dynamics, the Texas State Highway Department, Residential Construction, Coca-Cola Triple A Pattern Shop, and then 23 years at Bransom Pattern Shop as an Industrial Pattern Maker.
The last 22 years of his life, Papaw was a farmer and rancher. He accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1950. He was then dedicated to jail ministry for 7 years, served as a deacon for 56 years, and was a member of West First Baptist Church
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Allie, and by his brothers: Burl, Arvel, Lonnie, Paul, Boyce, Jimmy, Denton, and Ray, and by his sisters: Earline, Hazel, and Maxine.
He is survived by his wife, Norma of their home; son, Ronnie McConathy and his wife, Mary of Burleson; daughter, Barbara Finstad and her husband, Steve of Burleson; son, Barry and his wife, Char of Purcell, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Shannon, Kyle, Nate, Kristen and David; and eleven great-grandchildren, Aislynn, Layla, Eli, Zack, Aubrey, Mollie, Avery, Jude, Dez, Austin and Reed.
Papaw went to heaven on September 12, 2017.
