Francis Kay (Lewis) Woodard

Francis Kay Lewis Woodard, age 53, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 3, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease since 1992. Francis’ Celebration of Life will be held on July 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Church on the Hill located at 2000 Old Brandon Road in Hillsboro, Texas, with a balloon release for those who would like to participate following the service.

Francis was born on May 20, 1969, to Judy Moser Handy and Charles Raymond Lewis. She was born and raised here in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1987. Following graduation, she furthered her education by attending Hill College pursuing her passion in cosmetology. Shortly after graduating high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Frankie Woodard, and had two children, Falyn Brianne Russell, and Fischer Ryan Woodard.

Francis was a woman with a servant’s heart. Many knew her from being a waitress at Thunderbird restaurant for twenty years. Others knew of her from being actively involved in her children’s school functions and extra-curricular activities. If she were not helping others, you could find her at the ball field cheering on her children and grandchildren, something that brought her immense joy. She was also very crafty and found joy in making things for others, especially wreaths for her closest friends and family members. Francis was also an advocate for organ donation. In 2008 she received a perfectly matched kidney that blessed her with ten years of improved kidney function and health. In her spare time, she enjoyed researching her family tree and reconnecting with family members, no matter how distant. Family was Francis’ number one priority, and she will be deeply missed.

Francis is preceded in death by her father, Charles Lewis and stepmother, Drucilla Lewis. Her paternal grandparents, Robert, and Vivian Lewis. Her maternal grandparents Cecil Moser, Willie Frances Moser, and step-grandmother Clara Williams.

Francis is survived by her mother, Judy Moser Handy, and “bonus dad”, Jerry E. Handy of Hillsboro, Texas; seven siblings: sister, Kathy Fain and husband, Kelly, of Morgan, Texas; brother, Jerry G. Handy and partner, Brittia Stebbins, of McKinney, Texas; sister, Charla Bolstad and husband, Seth, of Crandall, Texas; brother, Charles Lewis and wife, Dana, of Maricopa, Arizona; sister, Monica Cross and husband, James, of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Glen Smith of Hillsboro, Texas; and sister, Tonya Tew of Aledo, Texas; Her daughter, Falyn Russell and husband, Nigel of Hillsboro, Texas and son, Fischer Woodard and partner, Kasey Nichols of Cleburne, Texas. Francis is also survived by eight grandchildren who called her “MoMo”: Lawson McCartney, Ryder Russell, Knoxx McCartney, Teagan Nichols, Scarlett Russell, Everleigh Woodard, Brynlee Russell, and Madilynn Russell, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews including: Kody Fain and wife Dayna of Weatherford, Texas; Kolton Fain and wife Audrey of Stephenville, Texas; Matthew Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; Megan Smith of Hillsboro, Texas; Taelor and Ashlynn Handy of Hillsboro, Texas; Ethan, Jaydon, and Cecil Handy of McKinney, Texas, and one great-nephew, Harrison Fain of Weatherford, Texas. Francis was also blessed with a best friend of forty-five years, Rene Nelson Sheard, who she deeply cherished.

Francis’ family would like to extend a special thank you to Francis’ kidney donor, Erin Garwood, and her family. They would also like to thank her personal care attendants, Tiffany Ward and Traci Fain, Hill Regional Physical Therapy, Fresenius Kidney Care, Wesley House Assisted Living, Alamo Hospice, and Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors for providing kind and compassionate care.
