G. W. Stanford


G. W. "Runt" Stanford was born on January 17, 1918 in Hillsboro, Texas to Bozie Brice and Fannie Lou Williford Stanford. He grew up in Hillsboro and served in the United States Army in the 143rd Infantry 36th Division in Company L during World War II. He married Edna Marshall on October 3, 1944 in Corsicana. They moved to Whitney in 1955 where he and his wife owned and operated Buckhorn Bait and Tackle for many years. He was a member of the King Memorial United Methodist Church in Whitney, also served on the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department; and a lifetime member of Whitney VFW Post # 8571 and had served as a past District 14 Commander. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna on April 20, 2004; two infant sons; brothers, Elzie Stanford, Alvin Stanford; sisters, Bobbie Stanford, Mozelle Davison and Ludelle Curry. Survivors include his sons, Billy Kirkpatrick and wife, Betty of Peoria, James "Lefty" Stanford and wife, Georgetta of Henrietta; brother, Sonny Stanford and wife, Janelle of Hillsboro; sisters, Nadine Lentz of Hillsboro, Adelle Nance of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Laura Reed and husband, Jim, Loretta Plumlee and husband, Hunter, Lorraine Kirkpatrick, Emily Baxter and husband, Tim, and Casey Stanford; great grandchildren, Heather and Brady Reed and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to King Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 612, Whitney, Texas 76692
