Garner D. Foster, 84, of Hillsboro passed away Monday morning, September 18, 2017, at Greenview Manor in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro with Elder Jonathan Neuman officiating.
Garner was born February 5, 1933 in Brandon to Carl W. and Gladys (Wells) Foster. He grew up in Hillsboro. In 1951, Garner joined the United States Navy and served in Korea. On June 7, 1954, he and Chloe Hagg were united in marriage in Charleston, SC. In 1959, he was honorably discharged and they moved back to Hillsboro. The couple later moved to Fort Worth where Garner joined the fire department in 1961. After serving with the department for 29 years, he and Chloe moved to their farm in Woodbury for their retirement years. While living in Woodbury, he raised race horses and was a licensed horse trainer. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Robert Paul Foster on December 5, 2016; two brothers, Paul and John Foster; and two sisters, Imogene Jones and Dora Dell Ward.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Chloe Foster of Hillsboro; two brothers, Bill Foster of Hillsboro and James Foster and wife, Ruth, of Cedar Hill; sister, Ruby Payne of Hillsboro; grandson, Ryan P. Foster of Corpus Christi; and a number of nieces and nephews.
