Gary Gilley, Jr

Gary Lee Gilley, Jr., 37, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 in West, Texas. A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Mike McReynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Itasca Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral.

On September 22, 1980 in Fort Worth, Texas, Gary Lee Gilley, Jr. was born weighing 9 lbs. 10 oz. A towering man of 6 ft. 4, he was as gentle as could be. Quick with a joke, he wanted nothing more than to see someone smile. He was loved by as many as he was loved.

Gary was raised in Red Oak, playing baseball and fishing. He graduated TSTC in Waco in 2008. He worked at EDDCO Machine and Tool in Hillsboro for the past ten years and was an expert machinist. An avid fisherman and duck hunter, he could be seen at any lake or stream across Texas, stringing a line or building a blind.

He was preceded in death by his paw paw and gee, Forrest W. and Ann Powers and his grandfather and granny, Donald Gilley and Dorothy Smith.

The son of Catherine Powers Boothman and Gary Lee Gilley, Sr. Gary is survived by them and his stepfather, John Boothman; his buddy boy, Cope and his lab, Tonto; his loving sister, Nichole Totzke and husband, Stephen; nieces, Chynna, Maebry and Cate; nephew, Julian and his stepbrother, Will Boothman.

Wherever there is a worn catchers glove, bass jumping, a lathe running, or ducks flying south, he will be remembered. He will be there with all of us.
