Gary E. Wood, age 71, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021, in Hillsboro. Funeral services have been postponed until 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro. He will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the funeral home, the family will be in attendance from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Facial masks and social distancing are required.
Gary was born December 8, 1949 in Sebastopol, California to Laurence and Joyce (Baker) Wood. He grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School, in Dallas in 1968. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army in September of 1969 and was honorably discharged in February of 1972. Gary then attended North Texas State University and received his degree in Industrial Arts and Education in 1978.
Gary met the love of his life at Parker-Garrick and was united in marriage to Abbie Ethridge on March 20, 1982 in Lancaster. He worked for MW Enterprises, then at Garland Industries. In 1997 he started his own company, PrintMaker, and ended his working career teaching woodshop and computer lab for 6 years at Permenter Middle School in Cedar Hill until his retirement in 2011. In his younger days he liked martial arts, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed woodworking, drawing in his Auto CAD program, martial arts and Sci Fi movies. Gary loved to work in his shop, especially with his son-in-law, Ryan. If something needed fixing, he could fix it.
Gary was a very faithful Christian, who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ unconditionally and enjoyed reading and studying the bible. He loved being on the farm and being with his family and especially being Poppie, the “Tickle Monster,” to his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Gary is survived by his wife, Abbie Wood; children, Hollye Noelle Burton and husband, Nick and Chelsea Cordell and husband, Carl Ryan; brother, David Wood; brother-n-law, Bobby Ethridge and wife, Janet; mother-in-law, Mary Sue Ethridge; Father-in-law, Raymond Ethridge and Dianne Waddell; four grandchildren, Callie Cordell, Charlotte Cordell, Grey Burton, and Lucienne Burton.
