Gene Claxton

Gene Claxton, 81, of Whitney passed away at his residence on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 7,2011 at Bethlehem Cemetery near Whitney.

Gene was born on March 17, 1929 in Alton, Illinois to the late Ralph and Cleo (Webb) Claxton. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII from 1946-1948 and from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. On November 11, 1972, he married Lela Satterwhite and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2011. For many years, he worked at Driver Excavation in the gas pipeline business and was a member of the Whitney V.F.W.

Gene was preceded in death by one brother, Leon, one sister, Dorothy, and one grandchild. He is survived by: son, Troy Claxton of Alton, Il., son ,Roger Claxton of Whitney; brothers, Joe and Leonard Claxton of Illinois, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
