Gene Dale James, 89, of Whitney, passed away quietly on November 30, 2014, at a Whitney nursing home. Graveside services will be held at noon on December 5, 2014, at Whitney Memorial Park in Whitney. Visitation will take place from 9-11 AM on December 5, 2014, at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney.
Gene was born on November 14, 1925, in Glendale, Arizona, to John Paul and Velma Ada (Sessums) James, the third of four children. He graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Technological College before joining the Army Air Corps.
On June 5, 1948, he married Vada A. Grizzle in Lubbock. He boxed in the Golden Gloves and earned many trophies. He farmed in Seagraves and Floydada before moving to Lubbock to drive for TMN&O Bus Lines. Gene was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Opal Ruth.
Loved ones include his brother, D.P. James and his sister, Sara Bowers, both of Whitney; his children, Penny McElhone of Lubbock, Deborah Ale of Denver, Colorado, Steven James of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mark James; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
