Gene Lilley

Gene Lilley, 81, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2019, surrounded by family at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Pastor Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Born on February 18, 1937, in Magnolia, Texas, he was the son of Edward and Daisy Lilley. For most of his life, Gene was self employed in auto repair and farm and auto parts sales. On June 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Linda Degner. Gene and Linda owned a Napa Auto Parts store in Hillsboro for 17 years.

Gene was a hard worker his entire life but cherished his family most of all. A very active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, you could always find Gene surrounded by the children in church. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Hill Regional Hospital. Gene’s most treasured time was when he was spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Nelda Parks; two brothers, Waylon Lilley and Dale Lilley; two infant sons; and a grandson, Jeremy Holland.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Lilley of Hillsboro; children, Dennis Lilley and wife, Deanie, of Georgetown, Roger Gene Lilley and fiancee, Kristal Sims, of Dallas, and Tricia Sokurenko and husband, Bill, of West Chester, PA; brother, Sherry Lilley of Splendora; sister, Glenda Coleman and husband, Gene, of Pilot Point; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Holland of Bryan, Dennis Degner and wife, Deb, of Aledo, Michael Lilley and wife, Kristi, of Pflugerville, Marshal Lilley and wife, Jenny, of Spring, Amber Sims of Forney, Ella Grace Sokurenko of West Chester, PA, and Lauren Elizabeth Sokurenko of West Chester, PA; 13 great-grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Austin Lilley, Joshua Lilley, Abigail Lilley, Hannah Lilley, Gus Holland, Madeline Holland, Emily Holland, Locke Holland, Gabriella Holland, Jerilynn Holland, Jackson Sims, and Madeline Hinckley; and four great-great children, Malacki Holland, Milla Holland, Rozeline Holland, and Beau Holland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Stained Glass Window Fund, 915 Corsicana Hwy., Hillsboro, TX 76645.
